DON'T TEXT & DRIVE

In the San Antonio Express News, the editorial “Take the pledge on texting and Driving”, it is clear that texting while driving have been affecting the lives of millions of people in Texas. In 2011, the National Transportation Safety Board recommended to the population that if they are driving, they should not be using any electronic device. According to their estimates, in the prior years they found 3,000 people lost their lives because of using electronic devices while driving. The Texas House passed a bill, 98-47, prohibiting texting while driving, but it died because the Senate Transportation committees denied a vote on the bill. Nonetheless, in Austin, cops will stop people if they see them texting while driving especially around schools when the light is flashing because that is against the law the use of wireless devices in school zones. In this editorial, the authors’ main point is to advice people that texting while driving has been affecting people negatively and it can affect you badly as well.
I agree with the anonymous author’s argument because it’s really important to decrease the deaths of people texting while driving. We still see people driving around with their phone on their hands and ear, as well as people putting makeup on and reading a book or newspaper. Anything that distracts us while driving is very dangerous; it is not just going to affect us, but it will affect other people, so it is very important to have a law that can stop people from distracting others while they on the road. However, now-a-days people still don’t change even though they know it can involve other people’s lives in an accident, and they maintain the same routine texting while driving.
